Arctic summer sea ice extent controlled by atmospheric transport
Submitted by Anonymous on 21.05.13The retreat of the summer sea ice in the Arctic region is one of the most dramatic signs of the ongoing climate change. Although the ice cover is steadily decreasing it also shows a large variability from year to year. In a new study, published in the scientific journal Nature Climate Change, researches at Stockholm University have examined the variability of the Arctic sea ice. They concluded that warm and humid winds from southerly latitudes towards the Arctic in spring are important for the amount of sea ice later in the summer.

14/05/13: Art and Tech -students Warehouse Tech -media art exhibition
Submitted by Anonymous on 21.05.13The pilot programme Art & Technology that started in fall 2012 brings together a group of talented students from within Aalto University to test their skills and experiment in the multidisciplinary field of media art, combining technology, art and design. The result of this experiment will be showcased in the Warehouse Tech exhibition that presents media and electronic art over two weeks in L3 Gallery, in Jätkäsaari.
A wide variety of working methods have been used, such as a study of ‘fugly’ phenomena on the Internet, and the recording of personal everyday data, to EEG brain scans controlling non-newtonian liquids. The exhibition is sure to bring surprise and delight to all visitors!
The opening of the exhibition is on May 14th at
